Cultivating smart and sustainable agriculture

Throughout the North-West European regions, agriculture faces growing pressures. Intensive land use and the gradual degradation of natural resources are threatening the long-term sustainability of rural areas. At the same time, rural development and the resilience of the agricultural sector are challenged by climate impacts, and uneven adoption of advanced technologies.

NWE projects address these challenges by revitalising soils and enhancing their carbon sequestration capacity. Farmers connect across borders to exchange on vital issues such as crop resilience and weed management. Other projects focus on decreasing North-West Europe’s dependency on global markets for key agricultural nutrients and fostering circular urban agriculture with techniques such as hydroponics and bioponics.
