St. Mauritius Therapieklinik in Meerbusch (StMTK), near Düsseldorf, offers in- and out-patient neurorehabilitation close to home. The range of therapy we offer is tailored entirely for the different needs of various age groups—from small children to older people.
The St. Mauritius Therapieklinik, in cooperation with five acute care hospitals and a rehabilitation clinic, belongs to one of the strongest suppliers of healthcare services in Greater Düsseldorf, employing more than 2,700 people.
The department of neuropediatric rehabilitation is part of the “Center of Neurology” including early neurorehabilitation including weaning and neurorehabilitation for adult patients.

The success of rehabilitation is made much easier by a pleasant clinical ambiance, surrounded by verdant fields. The hospital is nevertheless located right in the middle of Germany’s largest metropolitan area.
The easy accessibility allows us to integrate the young patients’ parents and social environment into the therapy. Every element of the facility (two wards, single rooms for one parent and child) the therapy areas, the nursery, the swimming pool, and the school) is designed to create a pleasant and friendly atmosphere that supports and strengthens the patients’ motivation to “stick” to their therapy plan.
Care is organized in small therapy teams, which ensures that the children work as much as possible with the same staff throughout their stay. The teams develop individual therapy plans which aim to realize as quickly as possible tangible successes for patient and family.
Our teams accompanying the patients bring together different specialists – pediatricians, neuro-pediatricians, orthopedists – as well as neuropsychologists, nursing staff (pediatric nurses, etc.) and therapists covering a broad range of fields (physiotherapy, sports therapy, ergotherapy, special education, psychology, art and music therapy, speech therapy, swallowing therapy) as well as regular and special education teachers of our hospital school.
We were excited to join the VR4REHAB project because we feel that the use of VR-AR technology opens new windows for interesting therapy options, which will help to keep our young patients motivated to remain engaged in high-frequency treatments. Only high-frequency treatment is apt to engage inherent mechanisms neuroplasticity for reduction of impairment and increase in functional abilities.
