ValuSect launches a great opportunity for SMEs in the edible insect sector

Are you a SME willing to develop your edible insect business? Apply now to our call for interest to receive vouchersEarlier this year, 17 SMEs benefitted from services to help them boost their activities. The second call gives you the chance to become one of them.

The ValuSect consortium is glad to announce the launch of its second call for interest to receive vouchers. SMEs in the edible insect sector can apply to receive different types of services, worth 10k to 40k. The services cover a broad range of activities on all parts of the value chain: technological services, food development and innovation, consumer acceptance and strategic business services, all related to insect-based food products. In total, €440.000 worth of services will be made available to SMEs to accelerate the development of the sector in North-West Europe.

What are the criteria to apply?

  • To be a food and beverage or agri-food SME
  • Located in North-West Europe* (see country list here)
  • To present an innovative idea for the development of the insect-based food business.
  • Activities related to three insect species only are supported: grasshoppers, crickets and mealworms (Locusta migratoria, Acheta domesticus and Tenebrio molitor). Other species will not be accepted, because they are out of the scope of the project.

It is important to note that the vouchers concern insects for food, and not for animal feed. A call for interest to receive vouchers for the insect as part of the animal feed industry will be open on 17 January 2022 and will include the Black soldier fly species as well.

How to apply?

Would you like to test different side streams as feed for your insects? Or analyse the composition of your final product? Submit your innovative idea by 7 January 2022. You can do so by filling the Application Form and send it to valusect@thomasmore.be. The consortium will inform the selected participants in March 2022.

SMEs that have already been granted a voucher earlier this year can apply again for this call.

The list of services, the application form, and the explanations on the vouchers selection are available on our website.
