RAWFILL training days at Leppe - October 21 and 22

Entsorgungszentrum Leppe Am Berkebach 51789 Lindlar Germany

21 October 2020 - 22 October 2020

The RAWFILL partners are pleased to invite you to the RAWFILL training days that will be held on the 21st and 22nd of October 2020. The RAWFILL training days are a good opportunity to learn more about geophysical technics and to discover and learn how to use the tools (ELIF, Cedalion and Orion) developed in the framework of the RAWFILL project. The RAWFILL methodology coupling geophysical measurements and guided samples is a powerful method to characterize the landfill geometry and its content (resources, hazardous waste deposits, etc.). In addition, the RAWFILL tools provide information regarding the future of the landfill site and its economic potential.

Please find below the program of the event:

Day 1 – 21st of October 2020 – Visit of Leppe landfill and Geophysics

The first day of training is dedicated to the visit of Leppe landfill and geophysics.

Site visit of Leppe landfill and the implemented project :metabolon

In the morning, you have the opportunity to join the guided tour on Leppe landfill up to a viewing platform on top of the landfill. During the tour the conversion of Leppe landfill by the project :metabolon into a modern waste management centre, focusing on innovation, research and education in the fields of resource management, environmental and landfill technologies as well as circular economy will be shown.

In the afternoon, you will perform geophysical surveys on site and learn how to acquire geophysical data. Four techniques will be presented: Ground penetrating radar, electrical resistivity tomography, seismic refraction profiling and H/V measurements. Moreover, we will present the added value of the RAWFILL methodology.

9h30 – 10h00

10h00 – 10h15

Presentation of the RAWFILL project

10h15 – 12h15

Site visit of Leppe landfill

12h15 – 13h15

13h15 – 14h45

Geophysical measurements: principle (H/V measurements, GPR, seismic refraction, ERT/IP)

14h45 – 15h00

Coffee break

15h00 – 17h00

Geophysical measurements: acquisition (H/V measurements, GPR, seismic refraction, ERT/IP)

Day 2 – 22nd of October 2020 – Presentation of the RAWFILL tools.

The second day will be focus on the interpretation of the geophysical data and on the RAWFILL tools. In the morning, you will learn how to interpret the geophysical data acquired on the RAWFILL pilot sites. In the afternoon, the final version of the ELIF (Enhanced Landfill Inventory Framework) and of the DSTs will be presented. You will also have the possibility to test the tools on real cases studies.

9h30 – 9h45

9h45 – 12h30

Geophysical processing and interpretation of the measurements.

12h30 – 13h30

13h30 – 14h10

ELIF – Presentation and application on real case studies

14h10 – 15h30

DST 1 & 2 – Presentation and application on real case studies
