Let's celebrate a milestone! Or: how to open the bonnet of a racing car!

Last week, Giuseppe and Aleksandr from Leeds Beckett and Ben Hill from Project Partner Oldham Council visited one of the Pilot houses in Oldham, belonging to Project Partner First Choice Homes Oldham, represented by project manager Jamie Smith.

The control network portrayed in these pictures has been completed this month. The "bulky equipment", such as  battery, storage heaters, PV system and boiler, had been installed in 2021.

A great implementation. Each heat storage tank has its own circuit and is switched and measured individually, as is the water boiler, as you can see in the pictures. The programmable logic controller (PLC), the second device (blue and white) from the left in the bottom row, top left picture, communicates with the battery via the programming interface (API), while it communicates with the heaters and boiler via the switches. The PLC is also the interface to Project's server in Sligo, Ireland, where the governing algorithm runs, for exchanging data and instructions.

Given the complex arrangement, those present agreed that they had not opened the closet of a home but rather used RED WoLF technology to create a race car.
Although the whole project has been affected by the Covid pandemic since the beginning and the implementation might appear hopelessly late in some places, our relentless work is now becoming tangible.

Monitoring can now start, and will enable the Partnership to assess the RED WoLF Hybrid Storage System during the heating season 2022-2023.

A big thank you to all partners - who have been highly motivated and tireless in keeping this project moving forward even during this complex time!
