As part of the European Sustainable Energy Week (EUSEW) held in Brussels on 4-8 June 2018, LOGiC co-organised a session on "Solidarity Islands and Energy Communities: How Community Energy Alleviates Energy Poverty".
With more than 60 participants, the session connected a multitude of stakeholders to discuss the role of energy communities in tackling energy remoteness and poverty with locally generated renewable energy. LOGiC was represented in the panel discussion by David Lecoque, Policy & Business Development Manager, Alliance for Rural Electrification (ARE), who leads on the LOGiC communications and during discussions by the entire LOGiC consortium.
The next possibility to get in touch with the project partners will be the LOGiC stand at Intersolar Europe in Munich on 20-22 June 2018 (Hall B2.309), where stakeholders will meet to discuss the way forward for decentralised renewables in North-West Europe and emerging markets. The LOGiC stand is located at the exhibition booth shared by ARE and the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) as well as the German Solar Association (BSW).

Also, I believe, that to effectively contribute to SEforALL targets know-how exchange between emerging countries and Europe is crucial as this helps to identify and to further develop solutions for rapid scale-up of decentralised renewable energy globally.”
Going hand-in-hand with LOGiC activities at key renewable energy events in Europe, the Lead Partner of LOGiC, NHN, will launch the ‘Community of Practice’ (CoP) in the coming months. It aims to collect feedback from all stakeholders and share best practices on decentralised renewable hybrid energy systems (DHES). All interested stakeholders are encouraged and welcome to join the CoP.
Bjorn Borgers, NHN: “The critical factor in successful decentralised hybrid energy deployment will be community and stakeholder involvement. Therefore, LOGiC will build a transnational learning community (Community of Practice or CoP) on Decentralised Hybrid Energy Systems (DHES). We invite initiatives in Europe to join us and exchange information and results in joint online sessions as basis of transnational cooperation.”
LOGiC fits well into a broader ambition in North-West Europe to shift towards a low carbon economy in all sectors and the overall EU Energy Roadmap 2050, which concludes that ‘…a new configuration of decentralised and centralised large-scale systems needs to emerge.’ This is why the project has received support from Interreg NWE to cover 60% of the Euro 4.2 million project budget where the remaining part is funded through the European Regional Development Fund.

About Low Carbon Off-grid Communities (LOGiC)
In a joint effort to pilot North-West Europe (NWE) towards a low-carbon energy future, eight project partners have teamed up to develop a standardised model for renewables-based decentral hybrid energy systems (DHES) in the project “Low Carbon Off-grid Communities (LOGiC)”. The decentralised hybrid renewable energy systems will lead to a reduction in carbon emissions and will help provide a reliable and local power supply for local communities.
The project is led by the Dutch Regional Development Agency North Holland North (NHN) where the Alliance for Rural Electrification (ARE) is the Communication Partner of LOGiC.
