A look back to the second IT4Anxiety Hackathon in Germany

The second IT4Anxiety Hackathon took place on October 29th and 30th 2021 at the Evangelisches Klinikum Bethel in cooperation with the Bielefeld University in Germany. This edition was held online due the current sanitary situation.

Hackathons are one of the major activities of the IT4Anxiety project. The first edition already took place in March 2020 in Amsterdam, Netherlands and three further ones will be organised in 2022: one in Lille, France on the 19th and 20th of January, one in England in February and one in Belgium in March. This aim of these events is to bring together people from different backgrounds to co-create innovative solutions. Over two days, patients, professionals, start-ups and visitors were split into thematic groups and worked together on the solutions and projects presented by the 8 following participating start-ups: Between the Lines, Elona, Digimenz, minime, Mobile Brain Lab, Robomantic, PsySelect.com and WellBe.

At the end of this event, the jury deliberated to select the first and second winner of this second Hackathon. The first winner was awarded 1500€ and an initial pilot study to be conducted at the EvKB Bielefeld to validate and further investigate their solution whereas the second winner had to chance to get 1500€ to develop their project. The winners of this second IT4Anxiety Hackathon were:

  • 1st winner: minime: brings together therapy and everyday life for patients. Indeed, the usual homework after therapy sessions which is now in a paper format will be included in the minime application in a virtual format. And for therapists, it will be easier to follow up the progression of the patients.
  • 2nd winner: Digimenz: is an application with customisable games for patients suffering from dementia. It allows them to train their brain for a better quality of life and it also provides relatives and doctors with valuable insights on the course of their disease.

Stay tuned for more innovative solutions in mental health in our next Hackathons !
