The Flemish Minister of Mobility and Public Works Lydia Peeters presented on 23 July 2020 a new vision for the uptake of shared and electric mobility in Flanders, based on an ambitious investment program of over €105 mln for the deployment of 1000 eHUBS in the region between 2020 and 2024.
In support of the deployment of physical mobility hubs on street, the investment program foresees the creation of a website and an app that will be recognisable in a consistent and appealing way, under the newly created mobility brand called “Hoppin”. “Hoppin” users will be able to explore through the website and the app the different shared mobility options, as well as timetables, connections, and prices. The launch of website and app is foreseen during the course of 2021.
A wide range of mobility solutions will be available for citizens and commuters of the Flanders Region and will provide them the possibility of choosing among public transport, electric bikes, and several types of shared mobility systems.
The Hoppin philosophy is based on the idea that Flemish mobility is based on a demand-driven mobility offer, in which multimodality is key, in line with the guiding principles of the eHUBS project.
Five different types of eHUBS are planned by the strategy of the Flemish government:
- Interregional eHUBS
- Regional eHUBS
- Local eHUBS
- Neighborhood-scale eHUBS based on a network logic
- Neighborhood-scale eHUBS based on a proximity logic.
