The ECCO team based in Cork Institute of Technology are hosting this event to provide insight into successful Community Energy projects. This webinar will discuss how these projects began, what is involved in getting them started, and the positive impact they have had.
This webinar will have 2 guest speakers sharing their experience and expertise in Community Energy, followed by a Q & A session with participants.
- Edgar Wolf is part of Énergies citoyennes en Pays de Vilaine (Energy Citizens of Vilaine region, EPV), founded in 2003. This association initiated the first citizen-owned wind energy project in France, located in Brittany near the city of Redon. To date, EPV has assisted a number of co-operatives in building 13 wind turbines across three locations with an overall capacity of 26MW. Following the success of these projects, EPV shares expertise and provides services to new regional initiatives in order to help them develop.
- Laoise Ní Fhlaithearta is part of Comharchumann Fuinnimh Oileáin Árann (Aran Islands Energy Co-operative), which has been a community owned co-operative since 2012. The group is currently working to erect a wind turbine on the island of Inis Mór. The co-operative has also assisted with the installation of photovoltaic (PV) panels across all three islands, heat pumps and battery storage, positioning themselves as leaders in the Community Energy sector in Ireland.
