First Uptake Accelerator workshop

Open Call to participate in the Di-Plast Pilots

Companies, which would like to increase the amount of recycled materials in their processes and improve the quality in process and product by using digital tools were invited to apply until the 15th December 2019 to participate in the Di-Plast pilot. Within the pilots,  companies can directly influence the development of the tools and ensure that the functions of the tools are tailored to their needs.

With our survey we got first insights into the challenges when using recyclate.

The next step are expert interviews in order to get a deeper understanding of the challenges when using recyclate. If you have specific challenges in your value chain while using recyclate, you might be an interesting partner for such an interview. Don't hesitate to contact one of the partners on the landing page that fits best for your convenience. Tell us which tools would help you to improve the uptake of recyclate.

Survey on the requirements of enterprises

Di-Plast needs participation of related partners from the plastics value chain. Stakeholders from along the value chain are important for the results (and success) of the project. In each phase of the Project inputs from stakeholders influence the progress of Di-Plast and also results from the project can be used by stakeholders in order to improve their use of recycled plastics material.

The next opportunity to be part of it will be our survey regarding the requirements of enterprises that handle plastics material. 

The Survey will start in March 2019, so stay in contact or better: if you are interested send an E-Mail to one of the Partners on the startpage.

The Pilots - Companies co-create the toolkit together with the Di-Plast experts

Di-Plast develops and implements digital tools to increase information transparency in the value chain and to support converters in purchasing and processing rPM. These tools will be implemented, demonstrated and tested in four pilots supporting companies from the plastics value chain. These companies are directly involved in conducting the pilots forming a co-creation process to make the tools fit for their applications.

  Pilot 1 - Matrix

Correlation between relevant raw material and properties and product / process requirements

One of the hindrances of using recyclate, according to the results of the Di-Plast survey and expert interviews, is the challenge in finding suitable recyclate grades for specific products. The correlation between product/process requirements is difficult to make, and in most cases field studies need to be carried out in order to validate the material selection. If converters would have a database where this aforementioned correlation is illustrated, it would be less complicated to find suitable recyclate grades. Furthermore, recompounders and material traders could use this tool in order to sell their material more efficiently.

  Pilot 2 – Process Analytics

This pilot focuses on the validation and analysis of process data with an easy-to-use dashboard, which you can tailor to your needs. It is equipped with different applications for data analysis, data visualisation and forecasting (e.g. waste quantities). Co-create this dashboard to make use of the digitalisation to improve your processes.

   Pilot 3 – Value Stream Management

Collection, evaluation and continuous improvement of product and information flow

This pilot focuses on the visualization and analysis of product and information to reduce operating cost by eliminating all non-value adding entities. The aim is to deliver value from your customer’s perspective and continuously improve your processes on a micro level (one company) or on macro level (complete supply chain). Within this pilot, you will evaluate your company or your value chain (if you can get your partners on board) together with our expert and receive information on how to improve your value streams in a holistic manner.

   Pilot 4 – Process Quality

Sensor data and machine data acquisition are the basic requirements for the data analytics tools. This pilot focuses on matching your skill and budget level with a suitable supplier to find the right software infrastructure for data acquisition or the right sensor to eliminate problems caused by recycling material.

All Di-Plast tools are developed as stand-alone tools that can be used independently from the other tools but also in combination. The following example shows one possible way of using the tools.

Start by getting an overview on your internal processes and information flows so that you can optimize them and make more out of your processes which include rPM or prepare your processes for rPM integration (VSM). The VSM tool helps to analyse, display and later optimize your cross-company product and information flows. It supports you in getting better knowledge about resource flows and localise bottlenecks either internally or withing your overall supply-chain.

Learn which sensors could help to get more information from your production (Sensoring) and learn how to get access to machine data that most likely is already there but not yet used (Machine Data Acquisition).

Now more in-depth work with your process data can start. Ideally you first use the Data Validation tool to assess data quality, gain insights in the variables and receive tricks how to increase your over all data quality. This might mean, that you go back to the Data Acquisition and the Sensoring tool but can also imply other steps.

Once your data quality is sufficient, we recommend using the Process Analytics Tool. It provides insights consisting of reports, visualizations and other analyses methods that describe the state of your processes and/or machinery. Errors in data found during the processing of specific materials can be automatically detected and made visible through reports and visualizations. This allows you to improve processes and their results. One module of this tool provides the opportunity to forecast future rPM quantities.

Our Matrix Tool can help you to find matching process and product requirements with material properties. Plastics users can find suitable recyclates for their applications here. The recycler, in turn, can offer its products (recyclates with specific material specification) or identify material specifications required by the market - and modify its recycling process to produce these materials. You will, therefore, gain a better understanding of the plastics recyclate market and opportunities, both as a user or supplier of rPM.

- You don’t exceed the De-minimis state aid limit (excluding corona support). The De-minimis regulation limits the support to EUR 200,000 in a three-year period

  1. General information on the applicant (company, person) and the field of work
  2. The estimated costs for the recyclates uptake activities.
    If you selected the chain voucher, please include 3 offers from your potential suppliers.
  3. A brief description of the planned activities and an estimation of direct and/or indirect increasment of
    plastic recyclate uptake through the voucher in the production chain.

If you have been granted, we will provide you with all necessary documents for the documentation. Applicants will be notified within 6 weeks if the voucher can be granted.
