Soft gripping and bioinspired manipulation are ideal robotic solutions for pick-and-place applications in the food industry, as well as in production and packaging. However, the use of grippers in the food industry presents several challenges. Crops, vegetables and fruits are all different in shape, size, ripeness, colour, and so on. Because of this, the gripper has to adapt to tough working conditions. The contamination risks are high and the name extreme performance is high. (short cycle times, extended uptime, robustness, cleanability, fast changeovers and cost). The four Dutch Technical Universities will take you into the trends, developments, challenges and applications of the use of flexible grippers for different products, shapes and materials based on nature!
In this webinar we will take a closer look at the design of flexible grippers with 'bio-inspired' soft materials. The design must take into account, among other things, the natural variability in the shape and size of the food products and the challenges and opportunities for real applications in the agri-food market. Practical examples will be discussed, from modern production systems, healthcare and soft (collaborative) robots for agriculture concerning the agro-food domain.
