1066 Solar Panels – A Community Solar Share Initiative in Hastings

Energise Sussex Coast, one of CANs’ sub-partners in Hastings, has produced a short promotional video about their community solar share initiative to fund 1066 solar panels (250 kW) on roofs in the Ore Valley, e.g. on the roof of Sussex Coast College. Sarah Macbeth points out “Not everyone can afford to put solar on their roof, so we’re working with churches and other groups to use their buildings to be able to benefit the whole of the community”. The panels will save 26,350 kg of carbon every year.

Energise Sussex Coast is a not-for-profit community energy co-operative in Hastings, UK, and are sub-partners to Optivo Housing Association in the CAN project. They intend this to be the start of many more solar roofs and to lead to cheaper tariffs for local residents, who are faced with energy poverty. This is their first community solar share offer in partnership with Brighton Energy Co-op and it was inspired and facilitated by the CAN-project.
