Boost4Health Masterclass: Accessing Opportunities in the NHS

Businesses from Boost4Health’s partner regions were invited to attend the 1st Boost4Health Masterclass to receive an insight into the NHS and the UK life science ecosystem. The 1-day Masterclass focussed on coaching European companies on how to access opportunities in the UK. As well as how the Boost4Health Project could connect them to new partners. Topics included:

  • Support and processes to help companies get access to NHS
  • R&D in the NHS, Running early stage clinical trials, Ethics, HRA (Health Resource Authority) and Funding applications
  • NHS England’s Innovation and Technology Tarif/Payment Programmes and the role of Academic Health Science Networks in supporting the adoption of new technologies and innovations

In the afternoon, attendees had the opportunity to network and delivered 2-minute company pitches, before sitting down to a panel session with life science investors from Kent and Manchester (Deepridge, NCL and Biocity).

In total 11 businesses (5 from Boost4Health partner regions outside of the UK) attended along with 18 support organisations including universities, investment organisations, an NHS Trust and Academic Health Science Networks.

The feedback was very positive, and all involved said the day was very useful for their business:

“The event was well-organised, and well-managed. We were able to enhance our visibility with the opportunity to make a presentation to the other attendees. We’re also being kept abreast of opportunities in the sector: Equitus Engineering Ltd.”

“The event was very well organised and the networking was very useful. I have now asked to be introduced to one of the German partners as an academic in our School of Sports and Exercise Sciences is keen to discuss their requirements further: University of Kent.”
