AFLOWT - Accelerating market uptake of FLoating Offshore Wind Technology

Project Summary

Issue
Wide spread market uptake of wind energy in deep water sites requires 4 elements;
- Demonstration of high survivability cost competitive Floating Offshore Wind (FOW) technology
- Raise awareness with and provide confidence to investors and project developers regarding technology investability
- Creation of supportive policy environment
- Develop an active supply chain

Change

AFLOWT will accelerate market uptake of floating offshore wind by supporting the development of test sites, supply chain, and a development plan for North-West Europe, by engaging project developers and investors.

Specific Focus

The main objective of AFLOWT is to accelerate market uptake of FOW. The biggest hurdles to this  sector are demonstrating cost effective enabling floating technologies, educating investors and project developers about the maturity of the technology, creating a clear policy environment and developing an active supply chain. These four elements will enable a route to market for multi-GW deployments.

Creation of a shared political and industry vision for the development of FOW across the entire NWE region.  Currently there is no shared vision.

Outputs
Publication of a NWE FOW Development Plan to coordinate a change in private sector perception of floating offshore wind investability, whilst also supporting policy and supply chains across the NWE region.
