The visitors of German TriboForum conference held at PtU Darmstadt on the 6th and 7th June 2018, had the chance to visit the ASPECT stand, where the partners Filzek, Zeller+Gmelin, TriboForm, Opel and Tata Steel were available to discuss the simulation technologies being developed in the project. In a lecture of the conference, Dr. Filzek also presented an overview of the project results to date.
ASPECT is an INTERREG NWE project aimed at developing a framework for the prediction of friction and its control during cold forming processes. The novelty of the modelling approach is that it considers the variation of friction with temperature increase during the start-up of the forming line – as compared to assuming a constant friction, which is never the case in real processes. For rapid, but also accurate predictions, the simulations are based on solid experimental input on the tribological behaviour of a variety of steel- lubricant combinations utilised by the OEMs in the automotive and consumer goods industries.
