Experience

Plankstetten Benedictine Abbey is known to be a “green” monastery. Its agricultural businesses became organic in the 90ies and the renovation of the abbey since 2000 is a building process dedicated to sustainability. In this context the new multi-storey building at the site was chosen to be built with straw from the own fields and wood out of the own forests. The building will be an outstanding example for straw bale building throughout southern Germany and be presented to the public as such. More than that, Plankstetten Benedictine Abbey will contribute to all the work packages in UP STRAW.
