The First Year in Review

The SMART-SPACE project officially kicked off on 3 September 2018 when all partners met in Ostend (Belgium). Now, almost one year on, we can look back on a first year filled with activities, meetings and challenges!

Soon after kick-off, we set to work organising the so-called “deep dives” in our pilot cities. During the deep dives, citizens and other stakeholders got the chance to share their insights the installation of smart lighting in their living environments. These sessions with locals really helped the team to understand a thorough understanding of the areas selected within the project as well as the existing opportunities.

Halfway our first year, all partners met up again in Eindhoven (NL) to take stock of the project developments. Afterwards we were invited by LUCI to their annual event “City under Microscope”. This year’s host was Rotterdam (NL) – “City of Light and Poetry” – and showcased its work around sustainable lighting and light art.

As a follow-up to the first dives, use case workshops were organised to work out viable descriptions of how the smart lighting system should look like; including the requirements and constraints that are place-specific on the pilot sites.

Make sure to keep an eye out for events and new project developments!
