Local Advocacy Toolkit

Building a productive relationship with the local government isn’t always easy. But it’s often important in taking your Community Land Trust forward. We have produced three handy documents that should help you along the way. You will find all the named documents available for download at the bottom of this page.

Local Advocacy Booklet

This booklet has tips and tricks to building a productive relationship with your local government. Whether you’re a seasoned group that would like to see its membership grow or a newly formed one that’s looking to build connections, we hope you’ll find this document to be useful.

Manifesto

It’s always good to be able to describe precisely what you’d like from your local government. This local manifesto is to help you do just that. It gives you precise asks and helps your local authority figures understand the ways they can implement community led housing in their policies and processes.

Template Letter

You will find that the first step to building a relationship with your council will often be via an email or letter. This is a simple and straight-to-the-point letter you can send to get your council's attention. You could send the local community led housing manifesto along with this too.

These documents were designed based on the experience of campaigning in England and Wales. If you have any questions please email kennedy@communitylandtrusts.org.uk
