Scaffold for study and demonstration

In 2021 and 2022, the University of Kassel rented a pilot plant for the installation and evaluation of vertical greening systems from the company OMC°C (Office for Micro Climate Cultivation UG Unternehmergesellschaft; Frankfurt) and tested the plant performance of various climbing plants (including growth height, biomass yield, etc.) in Witzenhausen.

The basic structure of this test facility consisted of a robust steel beam construction. The test facility consisted of several panels facing in different directions to test microclimatic effects as well as the individual requirements and tolerances of climbing plants with regard to solar radiation and shading. The test facility consisted of a total of 7 plant walls. Over a total area of 350 m², the plants were able to grow to a height of 9 metres.
