Almere is a Dutch test bed for new housing concepts. As one of the fastest growing cities in Europe, it has attracted 200.000 residents and 16.500 businesses since 1976. Building upon European projects like CrRRescendo, the City Almere has introduced in 2015 the integrated energy policy programme ‘Energy works’, aiming to become an energy neutral city by 2020. Almere has also organised the 'Woningbouwatelier’, an (inter)national hotspot for experiments and innovation in housing.
