Utrecht Central Station moves with solar energy


A third solar roof has just been installed at the Utrecht Central Station in the framework of the NWE project SusStation.

This system provides part of the energy used for lighting, escalators and elevators at the station. Replacing the canopies is part of the renovation of Utrecht Central Station scheme to make the station more sustainable and reduce carbon emissions.
But this is not an isolated action. The scheme has been instrumental in the design of a tool to assess the sustainability of stations (available online: www.susstations.org) in four countries of North-West Europe.
