Strengthening cohesion between communities

The economic crisis, along with the accompanying austerity measures, has had a significant negative impact on economic and social cohesion. For communities under pressure and populations at risk of exclusion, this is only going to lead to an increase in the gap between the advantaged and the disadvantaged. In most countries in North-West Europe, poverty and social exclusion are highly visible in larger urban areas, but are probably less pronounced or visible in rural areas. Greater effort is need to build cohesion within and between communities by tackling economic and social exclusion.
